Coca-Cola Bottling Plant Gets New Look Thanks to Küster and
Decorating Details
Updated Lobby & Conference Room Reflect Design and Colors of
Coke Products
INDIANAPOLIS, IN: February 25, 2008 – James Kuester, Principal
of küster teamed with Debbie Anderson of Decorating Details to
introduce new life into the Coca-Cola bottling plant, 5000 W. 25th
Street, Indianapolis, with an updating of the lobby, conference
room, hallways, and restrooms. Building upon the gold from the
caffeine free drinks, the silver of Diet Coke, the black from Coke
Zero, Full Throttle, and Rock Star energy drinks, and of course, red
from Coca-Cola Classic, a new color palate was devised that would
reflect both the rich heritage of the company as well as the
new products and energy of the 21st century. Additionally, the
signature bottle shape and classic wave are seen throughout the new
design.
The project began in the spring of 2007 with a request to update
the second floor sales conference room and hallway. Shortly after
presenting a design proposal, however, the focus was redirected to
the lobby. The plant had just received new lobby furniture from a
sister plant in Boston, MA, and it was decided that a new look was
in order to accompany the new furniture. “The tables that came from
Boston had this wonderful mocha marble in-laid tops,” said Kuester.
“I was able to find marble that matched, so we used this as accents
in the new floor and built a new wall behind the receptionist using
this material. Adding the classic, script Coca-Cola in stainless
steel on this mocha wall really makes the reception desk come
alive!”
The greatest challenge on this project came on 1 February 2008
when Küster received a call asking for assistance in remodeling the
first floor restrooms. While other areas of the plant had been in
discussion for renovations, these rooms had not been part of the
list. The plant had received a call from the CEO John Brock
announcing a visit on 14 February 2008, and management decided that
the restrooms needed a face-lift prior to his visit. So, in twelve
days the men and women’s restrooms were transformed. Gone were the
tired fixtures, poor lighting, and cinder block walls and in their
place was a warm and pleasant space utilizing textured wallpaper,
epoxy flooring, and solid-surface countertops.
Contributing immeasurably to the success of this project have
been Eric Schneller, CREW Property Improvement Specialists; and
David Decker, Affordable Kitchens and Baths. “Without them none of
this would have been possible,” says Kuester.
