Thousands Expected at Central Indiana Event to "Honor Our
Heroes"
Grace Assembly of God in Greenwood Presents 7th Annual Community
Patriotic Celebration on Sunday, June 29
Indianapolis, IN: June 23, 2008 – Grace Assembly of God in
Greenwood, Indiana is presenting it's seventh annual "Honor Our
Heroes" Community Patriotic Celebration on Sunday, June 29, 2008.
This event is for the purpose of saying thank you to those who serve
our nation as veterans and active military and to those who serve
our community (law enforcement and fire safety personnel).
Special guests for this event include General Stewart Goodwin,
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson,
Beech Grove Mayor Joe Wright, former Congressman Mike Sodrel and
Indianapolis Colts Player Hunter Smith. Also part of the event are
the bands Salvador, Connersvine, John David Webster and the
Indianapolis Children's Choir. The Indianapolis
Metropolitan Police Department Motorcycle Precision Drill Team will
also be performing.
"Our first Honor Our Heroes patriotic celebration was in 2002 in
response to the tragedy that occurred in our nation on September 11,
2001," said Wayne Murray, senior pastor of Grace Assembly of God.
"We were reminded just how heroic the men and women were who serve
our nation and our communities. At the Honor Our Heroes event, we
want to give the community an opportunity to
honor those who serve our nation and our community. The event has
grown significantly each year. Last year, more than 5,000 people
were present for the celebration and approximately 700 "heroes"
received a gift provided by the people of Grace Assembly of God,"
the pastor continued.
The event begins with a family festival at 6:00 p.m. with live
music on the huge stage. The band Salvador (more info at
www.salvadorlive.com) will
headline the bands playing on the main stage
during the pre ceremony family festival, along with local talents
like John David Webster and Connersvine. There will be a Military
Flyover with a large military display of equipment, vehicles, a
climbing wall and an opportunity for kids to see emergency vehicles.
A large kids zone filled with carnival games along with area
restaurants providing food.
The ceremony to honor our heroes begins at 8:45 p.m. The one hour
ceremony will feature guest speakers, patriotic music, a 5,000
balloon launch, pyrotechniques and a special commissioned metal
presented to each law enforcement officer, fire safety officer,
veteran and active military
present. One of the areas largest fireworks displays will conclude
the evening at dusk.
This outdoor event is FREE to the public. For more information
