I really try to find out what successful businesses are doing and maybe more importantly how they think?
Here is what I have seen the successful ones do and how they think:
1. They have easy ways to engage: “free trials, free audits, educational seminars, they interact and co market other companies to push new initiatives like “green” or “Web 2.0” or even “businesses overcoming challenges”.
2. They gain permission: They have stepped levels of permission that gradually convert people to their messaging and story. They work prospects, suspects and stakeholders through a process from ignorance to advocate.
3. They Reward: They give their clients a role in the brand and a reward for evangelizing their message. They give discounts, kick-backs and credits in accounts for their customers and referral sources.
www.sethgodin.com has written several books on permission marketing and they are all incredibly insightful. It amazing to me to watch his concepts and strategies make rain right in our back yard.
The real trick in marketing is pulling your clients to you not pushing your message on them!
